The Latest From Code Savvy - Experience STEAM Event

Today we kick off a 5-day STEAM celebration at the Mall of America!

Experience STEAM is a mall-wide event, hosted by The National Center for Autonomous Technologies (NCAT). There will be drone racing, STEM guitar demonstrations, and much, much more.

Now through Sunday, from 11am to 6pm everyday, Code Savvy will be hosting a stop-motion animation station in the East Rotunda on the 1st floor. Swing in and tell us the story of how YOU are Code Savvy… we’d love for you to be a part of this collaborative tech-art project!

This Week’s Spotlight and Project-Inspiration Theme: Perseid Meteor Shower

Every year between July and August the Perseid Meteor Shower makes itself visible to stargazers. This year the meteor shower will hit its peak between August 11th and 12th. When viewed at its peak spectators can hope to see around 100 long, bright, and colorful meteors in a span of one hour! Although, this year it will be harder to see because the peak time coincides with a full moon. This will cause the sky to illuminate more, while it is best to view with a clear and dark sky.

The Perseid Meteor Shower comes from the 109/Swift-Tuttle comet. The meteor shower occurs because of the debris left by the parent comet. When the earth passes through the debris, they come into our atmosphere, get extremely hot, and then they glow - a phenomenon also known as a shooting star! Check out this article to learn more about the Perseid Meteor Shower and see some really cool photos of the event.

Check out Digital Art in Pixels with CodeHS and learn how images are displayed on screens using pixels. You can create your own by learning how each image is created from a series of grids and colors. Try coding a meteor shower scene, a summer memory, or anything else that sparks your creativity!
