Code Savvy Connections

Updated: Jan 11, 2022

The Latest From Code Savvy - Taking a moment to #RememberMattGray

It is with heavy hearts that we dedicate this last newsletter of 2021 to CoderDojo Twin Cities co-founder and Code Savvy advocate for many years, Matt Gray.

As some of you may have known, Matt was diagnosed with cancer in mid-2020, and after going through extensive treatments over the last year, he passed away with his family by his side on December 20, 2021.

For those who would like to attend Matt's memorial service, it will be held Saturday, January 8th from 4-7pm at Bradshaw Funeral Home in White Bear Lake, MN.

Our team at Code Savvy has established a memorial board and if any of you would like to contribute your thoughts and memories of Matt, please email your photos and stories to us at kidscode@codesavvy.org - his family has also asked that if you want to share your thoughts on social media, to use the hashtag #RememberMattGray so they can track and catalog the posts.

We apologize for the abruptness of such bad news, particularly in the midst of this holiday season, but we wanted you to be aware if you hadn’t yet heard the news.

We do hope you have had a lovely holiday season with your loved ones, and we thank you all for your continued support of Code Savvy as we enter 2022 and beyond!

This Week’s Spotlight and Project-Inspiration Theme: New Years!

The first day of the new year is this Saturday, January 1st, and this week’s theme! CodeSavvy wants to reflect and celebrate everything that occurred in 2021 and look to the future for everything to come in the new year. Although things were very different this year due to the continuation of the COVID-19 Pandemic, we were still able to open back up and hold many events virtually throughout the year.

To celebrate New Year's try coding in Scratch and create your ball drop countdown. Or you could look back at our other newsletters and try your favorite coding challenge from the year! Whatever you decide to create, we hope that you share your creations with us.
